How to Find Auto Private Replies in BooSend

To configure Auto Private Replies in BooSend, start in your dashboard.

Log in to your BooSend account, open Solutions, then select your Instagram Comment Automation. From there, click the Private Replies tab.

This is where you choose whether BooSend should send one automatic private reply across all eligible content or send unique replies for specific posts and reels.

Option 1: Auto Reply to All Posts, Reels, and Live Stories

Choose this option when you want one default private reply to send whenever someone comments on your Instagram content.

Inside the Private Replies tab, select All posts, reels, and live stories. Then write your message in the Autoreply message text box.

Instagram Auto Private Reply Limitations

Instagram private replies follow Meta’s rules, so there are some important limits to understand before launching your automation.

Instagram only allows one private reply to be sent per comment. That means your first message needs to be clear and useful because you do not get multiple automatic private replies for the same comment.

Private replies must be sent within 7 days of the original comment. If the comment is older than 7 days, the private reply may not send.

For Instagram Live, private replies only work during the live broadcast. Once the live stream ends, private replies can no longer be sent for those live comments.

Follow up messages can only be sent if the recipient responds to the private reply. Once they respond, follow up messaging must follow Meta’s messaging window rules.

IGTV comments are not supported through the Instagram API. If your workflow depends on IGTV comments, do not plan your automation around them.

A user becomes a BooSend contact only after they reply to your private message. The initial private reply alone does not create a contact.

Contact variables supported in this setup include $contact.name and $contact.firstname.

Troubleshooting Instagram Auto Private Replies

Why is my Instagram auto private reply not sending?

Your reply may fail if the live story has already ended, your Instagram connection token is invalid, or the comment is older than 7 days.

First, reconnect your Instagram account inside BooSend. Then confirm the automation is active, the correct post or reel is selected, and the comment is still inside the allowed reply window.

Why can’t I find a post or reel in the dropdown?

The post or reel may already be configured in your Private Replies list. If it is not already configured, your account may not have eligible content synced yet.

Refresh your Instagram permissions, check that the post or reel is published, and try again.

What happens if I switch between All Posts and Specific Posts?

Switching between these modes clears your current setup. This cannot be undone, so you will need to manually reconfigure your private replies after switching.

Can I use contact variables in Auto Private Replies?

Yes. BooSend supports $contact.name and $contact.firstname for Auto Private Replies. These variables help your automated Instagram DMs feel more personal.
